什么是中国旅行证？美宝为什么必须办
中国旅行证是中国驻外使领馆签发给在境外出生、具有中国国籍儿童的旅行证件，有效期 2 年。最常见的申请人就是父母一方或双方为中国公民、在美国出生的宝宝（俗称 “美宝”）。
中国不承认双重国籍。只要至少一方父母是未在国外定居的中国公民，中方就视这个在美出生的孩子为中国公民。因此孩子不能凭美国护照办中国签证 —— 必须办理中国旅行证，凭旅行证进出中国，旅行证起到签证的作用。
美宝怎么拍旅行证照片（手机直接拍就行）
不需要去照相馆。一张清晰的手机照片就够了 —— 裁剪、调尺寸、换白底交给工具。针对还不会坐、不会配合的宝宝：
- 让宝宝仰躺在纯白色的床单、毯子或浴巾上 —— 使领馆接受婴儿“平躺拍摄”
- 手机镜头正对宝宝脸部、与地面平行，距离脸部约 50–80 厘米
- 用连拍模式：按住快门几秒内拍 20 张以上，宝宝会不停眨眼、转头
- 尽量拍到眼睛睁开；6 个月以下婴儿嘴巴自然微张通常可接受
- 画面里不要有手、玩具、安抚奶嘴或其他人
- 把最好的一张上传到 中国旅行证照片工具，自动转正、裁成 33 × 48 毫米、换纯白背景
在美国如何申请中国旅行证
在美国，旅行证申请通过中国签证申请服务中心（CVASC）或使领馆递交，按居住地所属领区办理。美国共五个领区：
- 中国驻美国大使馆（华盛顿 DC）
- 驻纽约总领事馆 —— 纽约、新泽西、康涅狄格、宾州等东北部各州
- 驻芝加哥总领事馆 —— 美国中西部各州
- 驻洛杉矶总领事馆 —— 南加州、亚利桑那、夏威夷及太平洋岛屿

2 年到期怎么办？换发说明
中国旅行证有效期为 2 年，它就是孩子进出中国的旅行证件本身。到期或内页用完后，父母需要重新申请一本，流程和首次申请基本相同，需要重新拍照 —— 孩子头几年外貌变化很大，不能沿用旧照片。随着孩子长大，涉及国籍的细节（全家在国外定居、孩子接近成年等）请每次换发前向所属领事馆确认。

What the China Travel Document is — and why a US-born baby needs one
The China Travel Document (中国旅行证) is a 2-year travel document issued by Chinese embassies and consulates to children who are Chinese nationals but were born outside China — most commonly babies born in the US to one or two Chinese-national parents (美宝).
China does not recognise dual nationality. If at least one parent is a Chinese citizen who has not formally settled abroad, China considers the US-born child a Chinese national — so the child cannot get a Chinese visa in their US passport. Instead they travel to and from China on a China Travel Document, which functions in place of a visa.
How to photograph a baby for the travel document
You do not need a studio — a clear phone photo is enough. For a baby who can't sit up or pose:
- Lay the baby on their back on a plain white sheet, blanket, or towel
- Hold the phone directly above, lens parallel to the floor, 50–80 cm from the face
- Use burst mode — 20+ frames in a few seconds, because babies blink and look away constantly
- Get the eyes open; a relaxed or slightly-open mouth is usually fine for infants under 6 months
- No hands, toys, pacifiers, or other people in the frame
- Upload the best frame to the China Travel Document photo tool — it rotates upright, crops to 33 × 48 mm, and sets the white background

How to apply for a China Travel Document in the US
Applications are submitted through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) or the embassy/consulate, based on your consular district. The five US districts:
- Embassy of China, Washington DC
- Consulate-General in New York — the north-eastern states
- Consulate-General in Chicago — the Midwest
- Consulate-General in Los Angeles — Southern California, Arizona, Hawaii
- Consulate-General in San Francisco — Northern California, Nevada, Oregon, Alaska, Washington state (the Houston consulate closed in 2020 and its district was reassigned)
Typical first-application documents: the child's US birth certificate (county + state authenticated), the child's US passport, both parents' passports and US visas or green cards, the application form, and one 33 × 48 mm photo. Confirm the current checklist with your consulate before applying.
Two-year validity and renewal
The document is valid for 2 years and is the child's actual travel document for entering and leaving China. When it expires, parents apply for a new one — essentially the same first-time application with a fresh photo. Because the child's appearance changes so much in the early years, every renewal needs a new photo. Nationality nuances (formal settlement abroad, approaching adulthood) go beyond a photo tool's scope — confirm with your consulate before each renewal.
